Jeep Grand Cherokee (2011-2020) hitch installation steps

1. Remove the spare tire

Make sure you remove the spare tire form your vehicle before you begin the installation process.

2. Remove bolts

To take off the four bolts that, we are going to take our impact drill and a 21 mm swivel socket. When you put it into place, you will notice that the trunk is a little slanted, so using the swivel socket will give us a little room to take that out.

3. Raise hitch into position

Our next step is to raise our hitch into position. We are going to line up the two holes on the side of the hitch with the two holes we exposed by removing the bolts from the frame.

We recommend you use an extra pair of hands so you don't cause any damage to yourself, the vehicle, or even the hitch if you accidentally drop it.

4. Secure the hitch to the frame

Now that we have our holes lined up, we are going to go ahead and use our existing hardware and insert it into the driver's side of the hitch to secure the frame.

Repeat the same process on the passenger side.

5. Tighten and torque hitch

With our bolts loosely into place, we went ahead and removed our hitch jack. Now, using our 21 mm swivel socket we are going to tighten it up and then torque it according to the manufacturer's specifications.

6. Torque down the hitch

Then, we will go ahead and use our torque wrench and our 21 mm socket to torque the hitch down.
